Clinical laboratory technicians provide an essential role assisting in detecting and diagnosing disease and managing treatments, even though few patients directly encounter them.
Working in laboratory settings either in hospitals or outpatient clinics, clinical laboratory technicians collect samples, prepare tests, and maintain records to help clinical laboratory scientists perform advanced analysis on samples.
Some examples of common laboratory tests are complete blood count (CBC), liver function tests (LFT), lipid profile, blood type, prenatal blood tests, and comprehensive metabolic panels.
Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA’s) work directly with patients to learn and perform exercises developed by an occupational therapist to regain lost everyday function.
This may include playing educational games with children who have developmental disabilities, teaching a stroke victim how to do hand-strengthening exercises, or showing a patient with Parkinson’s disease how use devices to assist with eating or bathing.
OTA’s receive an associate degree and often work if offices, but also work in hospitals and long-term care facilities.
Dietetic technicians help ensure patients receive the nutrition they need by screening patients for nutrition risk, reviewing medical and family data, and educate patients on proper nutrition.
They also help prepare food and plan menus under the supervision of registered dieticians.
