Speech-language pathologists (SLP’s), who are sometimes called speech therapists, provide a wide range of care to individuals with communication problems and their families.

Many SLP’s work in schools and primarily focus on speech and language difficulty and others work in clinical settings, focusing on swallowing disorders in addition to communication problems.

Speech-language pathologists teach patients how to improve their speech rhythm, speech pitch or volume, strengthen swallowing and speech muscles, and increase reading and writing skills. Speech-language pathologists require a master’s degree.
